A little update…

Hello blues fans!

Home Studio New AlbumThe hot weather is here. Hope you’re all enjoying the summer sun with lots of bbq’s and long evenings spent outside. I’ve enjoyed the month of May… I celebrated my 40th birthday, we played Leipzig and Berlin festivals and I’ve finally got around to reviewing music I’ve been demoing since the ‘Taylor Road’ album release back in 2015! I set up my home studio, having moved home at the end of last year and I’m currently busy selecting material for the next studio album. The material is in different states of completion. Some songs are fully demoed, all instruments, final lyrics, all orchestrated and ready to go. Others are half songs, with solos and outros missing and incomplete lyrics, whereas other demoes are simply some guitar riffs and ideas. I’ve listen to the material and highlighted the ‘songs’ I want to work on and transform into ‘studio ready’ demoes. Although it’s too early to say when I’ll have the demoes ready, the goal is to have most of the songs ready for winter so we can go out and play the new material, test which songs work best and then go into Tresorfabrik to record the album.

So what kind of music is it? Well, the music varies from classic style ‘Freddie King’ blues inspired slow blues songs, all the way through to heavy ZZ TOP style pieces. There’s some boogie, slow grooves and upbeat rockers. Although I’m not trying to actively control the music or the direction a song takes through the creative journey, I’m definitely trying to keep within the blues framework. ‘Taylor Road’ was a rock record and although it was my most commercially successful album to date, I really want the next record to be a ‘real blues’ record. That’s not to say it won’t be hard hitting, after all have you ever known me to play soft?

Anyway, the journey starts today. Let’s see where this creative road takes me…. #2018-IV
